WCW - A hugely informative document of the rise and fall of the World Championship Wrestling promotion. It gives us a great overview of the industry at the time, which included the start of the Monday Night Wars and the fall of WCW. This DVD feels like an old school DVD, being made in the way that most wrestling DVDs are made. It's basic, with little direction to the matches, but the production values are high. There are interviews and behind the scenes footage which are interesting and make it watchable. Since they are less than a year old, they are still under the copyright of World Championship Wrestling, and don't currently have DVD releases. Hopefully they can be released soon, as this is a great piece of WCW history that deserves a better release.
The interviews were very interesting, and I thought it was great to hear Jim Ross & Co. give some insight on the Monday Night Wars. He gives some really good insight in regards to WCW's rise as an entity, and I found it really interesting hearing his thoughts on when the nWo was formed and why WCW turned it on to WWF (I always wondered this, but I was glad to hear that). As far as the actual matches go, I'm personally really glad they didn't include any matches from the nWo, as they would have been very similar in style to the matches on the Monday Night Wars DVDs. The matches are still good, and I enjoyed many of them. I personally thought the Hall/Jericho match was the best of the bunch, but I could see why it was left out. I felt the Goldberg/Benoit match was a little too short for a main event match. The Jericho/Sting match was the match that followed, and it was a very enjoyable match.
Overall, I'd recommend this DVD to any of you who are interested in the rise and fall of WCW. It's a very interesting documentary, and it offers one of the best views into the history of the company. I also think it's a great value at around $20. 8/10.
The second half includes the highlights from Ric Flair's first WCW match, which was against Sting, as well as Goldberg's first match, which was against Sting. I won't lie, the matches are very uninteresting. They are completely understandable though, because the first portion of the DVD was about the company rise & fall. 5/10.
