The film has some plot similarities with Return of The King, the conclusion to the first Lord of The Rings trilogy. One similarity is that the protagonists of both films have a to protect the innocence of a young girl from an evil force. Also, the film takes place in a sort of parallel world to Middle Earth. During the climax, there is a scene where a man appears to be reading the Hobbits' story and another man enters the room and they begin arguing. This is a reference to the Return of The King with Frodo and Sam arguing over the quest to destroy the Ring with Gollum.
