The 100 Astronomy Projects is one of a number of astronomy-related sites set up by the advocacy group Astronomers Without Borders. The 100 Astronomy Projects was designed to provide a single point of access to the latest discoveries in astronomy. This site is home to the newest news and information about astronomy, from CCDs to black holes. Visitors to the site can browse through the sections to find out what is hot, what is happening, and what is in the news. The site also provides links to relevant non-astronomical websites, as well as websites where astronomers are active in every field of astronomy. The site is totally free to use and does not require any logins whatsoever to access the information it has to offer. It is one of the few astronomy sites that does not need any registration to subscribe to it or log in. This site is available gratis for all to use at: astronomerswithoutborders.org/100projects/ and is maintained by Astronomers Without Borders.
The L'Oreal COSIye (Cosmic-Eye) Project is developing a full-sky survey of the universe using a new generation of optical telescopes and images from space. This initiative aims at scientifically complementing the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) data (which uses eight 2-degree-wide and 40-degree- long telescopes) by observing the full sky. This survey is aimed at detecting the most elusive type of object: those that have not yet been detected by telescopes and whose light is too weak to be detected by any existing instrument. This project will achieve higher detection efficiency than any previous optical telescope, and will also considerably increase the size of the survey area. A naming ceremony was held February 6, 2006, in San Diego, California, to mark the start of the project. The collaboration between the ESA (European Space Agency) and the French Institute for Space Studies, scientists, and engineers from academia, and other partners encompasses five countries, 27 laboratories, and 70 universities. d2c66b5586
